The Road, 2009

The Road, 2009

No matter how awful we feel life gets, how useless we are (old, blind and deaf, like that elderly man walking the road; the boy and his father stumble upon him and feed him; the old man got to see that Humanity will continue, innocence and righteous people can and will continue to exist), there is still Hope. God doesn’t tolerate Despair, Despair is a demonic emotion.

Everyone knows death is bad and sad, but you need to be a parent to know the absolute unquestioning love for a dependent vulnerable child, and the devastation at the prospect of losing a child. It’s just pure nature, primordial, a feeling that can only be unlocked by having children of your own.

Too bad people online, or in general, are just way too demoralized or atomized to truly understand or even take in what this movie (or the book it’s based on) means.

Are you carrying the Fire?

I told the boy when you dream about bad things happening, it means you’re still fighting and you’re still alive. It’s when you start to dream about good things that you should start to worry.

Why

Why do we struggle to breathe a more righteous breath, when we all end up in the same place?

Yes, today is time for Love.

Alien vs. Predator, 2004

Alien vs. Predator, 2004

Not bad, not good. Mashup between two great universes to create something that’s … not good.

Thousands of years ago, these hunters found a backwater planet. They taught humans how to build, and were worshiped as gods. Every hundred years, the gods would return. And when they did, they would expect a sacrifice. Humans were used to breed the ultimate prey. The hunters would battle with these great serpents to prove themselves worthy to carry the mark. But if the hunters lost, they made sure nothing survived.

America

Apparently, I’m that Asian who speaks broken English in front of people. But I was conscious about the potential outcome before I went on stage. I still do it. The Westerner is American in this case, still feeling good about saying “Nǐ hǎo.” Perhaps, there’s a slight chance that the American would probably be the one who should feel embarrassed right from the very beginning but has yet to realize.

I speak your language—despite badly—I wrote this post that you’re reading. I understand the Western ways of life by watching Netflix and countless YT videos. With decades of experience learning human biology from leggy hot blondies on PornHub. I speak Cantonese, an ancient dialect that long existed before your “country” was even there. I understand philosophy that rooted deep in the culture, like Filial Piety; there’s not even a word for that in the English language. Because it’s too complicated for the Western mind to even comprehend. And I believe I know of Western values, “individual freedom.” America

Second Life Tutorial – Mesh Art to Frame

It’s been a while since we touched the “Metaverse” category within our blog, and we figure to add a tutorial on how to do something that seems mundane at first. This is adding a texture to an object to show off your art in Second Life. But we’re going to go at it in the most convoluted way possible. Why do you ask? In part, this is why we learned how to use the 3d software “Blender”. By taking very simple shapes and exporting them into something Second Life can use.

I suppose in some respects. These same principles we’re about to do could be applied to other engines as well. On top of this. We wanted to start with something that hopefully will not make people’s heads explode! Second Life Tutorial – Mesh Art to Frame

Introducing GoExec!

Spawning remote processes on Windows devices has become a common procedure for lateral movement on Active Directory networks and beyond. Understanding the handful of methods used to achieve remote execution is crucial for hackers and system administrators alike. In this post, we’ll present our new project, goexec, as an improved alternative and drop-in replacement for many of the existing tools used for the same purpose. Introducing GoExec!

Shoot the Piano Player, 1960

Shoot the Piano Player, 1960

Flawlessly acted (Charles Aznavour, Marie Dubois, Nicole Berger) and directed (Francois Truffaut), I don’t think he ever did another film as fun and whimsical as this one, and it’s probably his most Hitchcockian film.

I’d rather have pretty underwear than those exciting skirts some of the girls wear.

Arduino IDE on PowerPC arch

Hard to believe, but the old Arduino IDE is working on an Apple iBook (OS X Leopard, PowerPC arch) and I can actually import libraries and sketches so I can play with my Arduino Mega 2560. And the old IDE is a breeze to use compared to the new steaming pile of donkey turd the new IDE is.

Wounded Birds, 1977

Wounded Birds, 1977

In a way, Nikolay Gubenko’s film can be compared to Tarkovsky’s Mirror, because there are lots of things in this film that seem to be directly influenced by Tarkovsky. But Podranki is in no way as difficult to understand as The Mirror. A very good film, nevertheless.

Spectacle

How anyone can look at America and their state of continual campaigning and not conclude that it’s a society completely rotted by spectacle, is beyond me.

Book authors and logos

What if book authors had their own logos like rock and metal bands? That would be really cool.

Me, Natalie, 1969

Me, Natalie, 1969

One of my favorite films ever, the story of a suburban girl, Natalie of Brooklin; top notch performances from Patty Duke and James Farentino. It’s a movie you will never forget, and if you happen to cry a bit, it’s ok. It’s good for you. It’s one of those rare breeds of films that stirs your emotions.

Dear David, I subleased my apartment and we have just become co-inhabitants, as the saying goes. Just this minute decided that the word “co-inhabited” is a very sexy word. I guess I never thought of it before because I never co-inhabited with anyone before. I guess after we’re married I’ll think that “marriage” is a sexy word too.

4chan hack postmortem

On the afternoon of April 14th, a hacker using a UK IP address exploited an out-of-date software package on one of 4chan’s servers, via a bogus PDF upload. With this entry point, they were eventually able to gain access to one of 4chan’s servers, including database access and access to our own administrative dashboard. The hacker spent several hours exfiltrating database tables and much of 4chan’s source code. When they had finished downloading what they wanted, they began to vandalize 4chan at which point moderators became aware and 4chan’s servers were halted, preventing further access. Still standing

Privacy setup on macOS

If you were wondering how you can keep your privacy on modern macOS with its thousands of network connections to Apple mothership (not to mention every application additionally sending telemetry data), this has something to do with it.

Privacy setup on macOS

Basically on boot the laptop starts into the Default firewall profile, which denies all connections except the VPN/Wireguard one. Once that connection is established, Little Snitch switches into the Secure profile, which allows specific whitelisted network connections (web browser is allowed 80 and 443 only, email client is allowed 995 and 465 only, IRC client 6667 and 6697 only, etc) and everything else is dumped into a blackhole and blocked. Not like Music.app needs a network connection to play … music, right?

This reduces the network chatter to minimum and nothing ever gets sent to Apple’s servers. Or Google’s.

Crossposters

I wish I could say I feel sorry for the ones crossposting their junk and slaveing away between Twitter X, Bluesky, Mastodon’t, Threads, and probably more, but I can’t do that.
