Germinal, 1993

I don’t have a favorite actor, but the closest is Laurent Terzieff (and Anatoly Solonitsyn, but that’s another story), his small role as Souvarine the Anarchist struck a chord with me here, and has a crucial role in the context. Germinal is an excellent but monstruously long novel by Émile Zola, and this is one of the most expensive French movies ever made. But what a movie it is, with an excellent pace, excellent actors, lavish costumes.
A must read (the novel) and a must see (the film).
Who needs God and Heaven? We can change this lousy world.
